On Set with Jackie "The Joke Man"

So, last night was very eventful night for The Mimi & Flo Show. Actor/Comedian Jackie "The Joke Man" Martling (best known from radio's Howard Stern Show and the film "The Aristocrats") was on set to play a character for one of the upcoming, top-secret episodes of The Mimi & Flo Show. Jackie, a huge Mimi & Flo fan, is just about one of the greatest guys you can imagine! Not only was his performance brilliant and hilarious, but he is a genuine sweetheart to know and work with. How our show is made....

It's funny, super hi-tech and works like a Choose Your Own Adventure.... You already know all that. What about behind the scenes? This show may be the first of its kind in providing the viewer with the instant gratification of choosing the lead characters' fates. It is no easy task to accomplish.

1) PRE-PRODUCTION: We begin our process in New York City. Hannah Bos (Actor/Writer/Producer), Frances Chewning (Actor/Writer/Producer/Co-Editor) and Jeff Maksym (Director/Writer/Producer/Cinematograper/Editor/Sound Designer) all meet up over donuts to hash out the plots, scripts and other craziness of the world of The Mimi & Flo Show.

2) PRODUCTION: After they get the plan hammered out, they make contacts through thier vast network of their most talented friends that will work for food. Once they've got a schedule, a hand or two, and maybe an added cast member, they run out and shoot the scenes, by order of location, as needed for the script.

3) POST PRODUCTION: If it wasn't before, here is where it gets really interesting ... and complicated. Half of the dailies (DV tapes containing the footage of the show) are shipped off to Los Angeles, California. There, Michelle Tesoro (Editor Extrodinaire) is waiting in a track-suit and a headband at her nearest FedEx location. Both Michelle and Jeff watch all of the tapes and digitize them so they can start editing the episodes (Frances also has her hand at cutting). Meanwhile, Nathan Lenkowski, the web designer, is in Madrid, Spain formulating the specs of the site prior to getting the final product. When Michelle has finished her episodes, she sends them back to New York City, where Jeff can put on the final music and/or sound design as needed. When all of that is complete, the finished files are shipped off to Nathan who waits patiently in Speedos and a smoking-jacket. Nathan then does some black magic wizardry on the episodes and gets them all recompressed and ready for viewing on the World Wide Web. There is a trial test period and, when all is ready, we launch. It doesn't really end there, but you get the point. Hope you found this interesting!
